Quarterly Pooling Tip – April 2014
Becoming the New Code Holder as a Result of a Code Return
When a pooled code is returned, the PA will check to see if
there are any blocks or ports assigned. If your company has any
block(s) or port(s) assigned from this code, the PA will contact
your company to become the new code holder. Below are some
considerations that should be taken into account when
determining if your company would volunteer to become the new
code holder:
- It will be the responsibility of the new code
holder to continue to maintain default routing
functions associated with the pooled code. For
example if you take over a code and do not currently
have trunking arrangements in the specific rate
center you may have to now set up those
arrangements. For further information on the
responsibilities of a code holder, please refer to
the Section 4.2 of the Thousands-Block Number
(NXX-X) Pooling Administrator Guidelines, which can
be located on the ATIS website at
http://www.atis.org/inc/incguides.asp.
- If the code has not been flagged as being
“In-Service”, which is defined as “A code or block
for which local routing information appears in the
LERG Routing Guide, and one or more telephone
numbers within the NXX code or NXX-X block has been
Assigned to an end user (FCC 00-104, ¶240)”, then
the new code holder will assume the responsibility
of submitting the Part 4. To determine if a Part 4
is required, please contact the PA.
